The easier V8 install would probably be a carbed small block Ford. Distributor in the front, shorter block. Still nothing that bolts right up. Any engine swap with more torque than the 3.2 will need a new transmission anyway. Bolting up to it is irrelevant. 98 Amigo, 2.2 5sp 4x4, 4.77 gears and factory LSD.

2.8-to-3.4 is virtually a direct swap. Use all the accessories, intake, exhaust, etc from the 2.8 and they will bolt right up to the 3.4. Even the cyl heads are identical and the only real fitment issue is the fact that you'll need to drill & tap 2 holes in the driver's side of the 3.4 in order to mount the GM-Isuzu starter.

1986 4 door trooper - 2.3l with Jerry cam, 1997 Rodeo intake, 1991 Ford EDIS spark module, and Megasquirt II controlling it all. I will echo Dennis's statement. The easiest and best way to fix the engine problems is to rebuild the 2.3 or get a 2.6. The pre-88 troopers aren't a great candidate for a bigger engine swap.

The 2.8L V6 is a GM motor making the swap to a GM 3.4L or 4.3L relatively easy. The 2.6L is an Isuzu motor. The bell housings on the trannies are different which is why you can't find much about people swapping out a 2.6L. If they want a larger engine in a first gen Trooper, they just buy a truck with the 2.8L not a 2.6L.

Dennis. If the replacement engine is from a Trooper it is the 1.9L G200Z, not the 2.3L 4ZD1 as stated. The block should have big "G200" letters embossed on the side under the exhaust ports. The G200Z uses a 6-bolt crank, 4ZD1 &4ZE1 both use a 8-bolt crank, so your auto flywheel won't bolt up to the engine.

The 98+ Trooper engine is a 3.5 with 215 HP and the 98+ Rodeo engine is a 3.2 with 205 HP. They are the same engine the difference in displacement is the crank stroke. The pistons have different wrist pin heights to accommodate the stroke of the crank. There just isn't any other engines that are an easy swap into these vehicles.
