Spirals Coal fines in the ranges of <1mm and 0.1 mm in South Africa are normally treated in spiral concentrators (Coaltech, 2011). At these ranges, spirals are said to offer a simple, cost efficient and reasonably efficient separation, and the lower size at which beneficiation can be conducted is about 100 µm (Coaltech,2011; Horsfall et al, 1986).
