The lathes.co.uk website is excellent and I've spent many hours on there but had dismissed the Hardinge-Cataract slides as unobtainable. To cut gears I'd probably make a spindle to bolt onto a vertical slide. As to mounting a vertical slide, the Myford type does look quite easy due to the location of the screws.
